Body

Jules “Skipper” Verne Hudson, Jr., 71, of Eatonton, GA passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer and chronic illness following a lung transplant.

Skipper was born on January 16, 1953, in Decatur, IL to Jules Verne Hudson, Sr. and Ruth Lovett Hudson. Skipper attended Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, AL, where he was an outstanding alumnus, and he graduated from Belhaven College on a baseball scholarship.

He went on to receive a degree from Reformed Theological Seminary.

He married Lynn Lipford on December 23, 1988, at Liberty United Methodist Church in Macon, GA. He had a successful insurance career (Loss Control Consultant) with Hartford Insurance and retired in 2011 from Chubb Insurance.

Despite his decision not to pursue a full-time career as a pastor, he took every opportunity he could to share God’s word and love with the world.

Skipper was a member of Lakeside Church in Greensboro where he was a deacon and had also been a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Eatonton. He also loved teaching Small Groups, Sunday School, and children’s ministry at numerous churches over his fruitful life. Skipper and his small group family often shared God’s word with The Harbor Assisted Living Facility as well.

Outside of his love for his ministry, Skipper stayed active even after his collegiate sports tenure.

He was an excellent “lefty” tennis player with a wicked serve, which garnered him numerous awards. He met Lynn, the love of his life, on the tennis court.

Skipper is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lynn; his sons Joshua David Hudson of Atlanta, GA and Peter Andrew Hudson and his wife Reba of Macon, GA; his sister, Jane Kitchen and her husband Marty of Naperville, IL; his brothers, George Hudson and his wife Stephanie of Mobile, AL, and Rob Hudson of Hanover Park, IL; his grandchildren, Samantha Grace Hudson and James Gnann Hudson of Macon, GA; and his beloved dog Gabe, a King Charles Cavalier. Skipper was a proud handler with the K-Nine Angels, and he enjoyed taking Gabe to provide dog therapy to others. He is also survived by his brother-in-love, Russell Lipford (Dolores) his sister-in-love Murrell Ann Bowman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for their exceptional care of Skipper during his final days.

A Celebration of Skipper’s Life was held on Sunday, March 3, 2024 (3:00 p.m.), at Lakeside Church, located at 5800 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642 Rev. Jay Reber and Rev.

Kevin Magness is officiating. Visitation was one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Circle Ranch, Inc., 1330 Tal Lewis Road, White Plains, GA 30678, or to Lakeside Church at Lake Oconee.
