Car crashes into tree, catches fire

A car filled with seven people crashed into a tree recently and miraculously no one was injured, Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell said. The vehicle, driven by Damya Williams of Eatonton, was traveling south at a high rate of speed on Hogan Industrial Boulevard May 5, ran through the stop sign at the intersection of Industrial Boulevard and into the woods where it hit a tree.

A man wearing a mop on his head broke into a store during the night and stole cash from the cash register, authorities say. Because he was successful, the man reportedly returned to the same store several days later but succeeded in stealing only a Dr. Pepper.

EMS crossing needed if SR 44 plan is implemented

As the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) project to widen SR 44 in Putnam and Greene counties continues to evolve, a new wrinkle emerged during a public information meeting held at the Putnam County Administration Building May 7. In the process of drawing up plans to transform SR 44 into a two-lane highway, designers didn’t factor in the boat house on the southbound side of SR 44 used by the Greene County emergency management agencies.
